Under the auspices of Dr. Mohamed Othman Elkhosht, President of Cairo University, and Dr. Mahmoud Al-Saeed, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Political Science and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Center, and in cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, IOM Egypt and Faculty of Economics and Political Science signed a Memorandum of Understanding in June  2021 to establish a Migration Research Unit (MRU) within the Center for Economic and Financial Research and Studies (CEFRS)
