2nd IOM Model

Under the auspices of Dr. Mahmoud El Said, the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, and Dr. Adla Ragab, the Coordinator of the MRU, the unit started its first training week (17th – 21st of April 2022) for the start of the second round of the IOM simulation model. The event was attended by Prof. Mamdouh Ismail, the Vice Dean for Community Service Affairs, Ms. Lour Blanch, Deputy Head of the International Organization for Migration mission in Egypt, Ambassador Nevine El-Husseini, Deputy Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Migration Affairs, Ambassador Naela Gabr, Head of the National Coordinating Committee for Combating and Preventing Illegal Migration and Trafficking in Persons, and Advisor Adel Omran, the legal consultant for the Ministry of Migration and Egyptian Expatriate Affairs. The event was also attended by Ambassador Salah Abdel Sadek, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Consular Affairs, and a group of students from various faculties of Cairo University who were selected to participate in the model. The MRU unit, in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration, organized a closing ceremony on 25 September 2023 to celebrate the end of students’ activities of this round of the simulation model. During the ceremony, students from various faculties of Cairo University, including Economics and Political Science, Medicine, Law, Arts, Commerce, and Media, presented innovative initiatives to address this issue in front of representatives from the IOM, the National Coordinating Committee for Combating and Preventing Illegal Migration and Trafficking in Persons, the Ministry of Migration, the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency, the Nasser Military Academy, the former Assistant Minister of Interior, and the President of the Court of Appeal, as well as a group of academic professors interested in migration issues

The purpose of establishing a unit for migration studies to provide an opportunity to study the economic and social dimensions in cooperation with the various departments inside and outside the college to study the motives and effects of migration, whether legal or illegal, which opens the horizon for joint research.
